    Unhappy Chinese USB chargers

My rabbit bit straight trough my cubot one's stock USB to microUSB charger.
Now i have to get another one off ebay.
Basically my question is, can a ****ty cable damage your phone/battery life?

I mean, the way i see it, sure those crappy cables are made of junk, but they'll still feed the phone about the same what he was getting before (a bit less due to added resistance due to impurities?)
I mean, its not a power socket to phone cable, it doesnt need to drop 240volts to 5v, its just a flat out usb to microUSB, what could go wrong? Am i right with this way of thinking or can i still mess up the phone with a bad cable?

    Regards, Vedyl

I don't think you can "mess it up" but be aware that you WILL get what you pay for. 99 cents for a cable off eBay will buy you absolute garbage that will likely break very quickly.

Pay a bit more and you'll get more quality. Also be aware I've come across some marked "Charging cable" meaning that's all they'll do - charge. They're made cheap so they eliminate the wires/connections required for data transfer. They're not that common, and generally are limited to the super-cheap USB cables, but they are out there. So be aware of that. Best bet is to spend a little more and save yourself buying more cheap cables later.

Also, the longer the cable, the less juice makes it to the phone. 2-3 feet is about max if you're charging off a computer, unless you can leave it plugged in overnight. Even then a longer cable (6 feet or more) probably won't charge your phone off USB, and maybe not even off the wall charger. Keep it short.

Phone chargers are commodities these days. Samsung doesn't put any more money into theirs than the ShenZhen Copy Machine does. (Except for the plastic - Samsung makes a nice case.)

The normal cheap charger can supply an amp or more. The average phone doesn't draw more than 900 ma. Can you damage your phone with a cheap charger? Only if you put the plug in upside down and force it in. Chargers are just too cheap for cheap companies to save money by buying cheaper parts. Once the quantity lowers the cost to almost nothing you can't save money by buying cheaper parts - there are none. So you open a shop next door that "salvages" old 2K SD cards, reprograms them to say that they're 32k and have a laser printer print a good company's name on them. Ever check the manufacture date of your cheap SD card? Do you know how many of them were "made" before the technology was invented? That's what I'd worry about, not chargers.

I know exactly what you mean, i have one of those sitting on my shelf.
"samsung 32gb" not according to hwtest
What annoys me the most though is how people give the guy positive rep before they even open the friggin pacage, and id bet 95% of them dont even use more then a gigabyte so they dont even realise its crap and give positive feedback, so people like me actually think its okay

Which is why I buy SanDisk, I know the usual counterfeit mistakes to look for and usually pop the card into the phone while I'm talking to the salesdroid and run a check on the card. (Last week I "pretended" surprise when the 32GB Extreme Plus card had a manufacture date of 1/1/70. Perfect packaging, perfect silk screening on the card. The chips don't lie. We went through the entire stick of 32GB EP cards - 2 counterfeits.)

And I run a memory scan on every card I buy. Interesting, some of the "scenes" you find on some of the
    new" ones.

Maybe I could open an SD "reclamation" company and make my money with the porn site I'd open.

They have the little ridge on the back easy to see if counterfeit.
Also these chinese people seem not to be able to hire someone litterate to check their pacages, so id recommend, checking those too
The pacaging on the fake sd
Unfortunate thing with these is that you cant really inspect them before you buy. you just kinda order and hope for the best
    And haha, you should!

I've purchased cheap dollar cables and name brand $12+ cables and they all last about the same length of time. I'm good to get 6 months out of my cable. By comparison, prior to USB for charging, a power cable would last me the life of the phone. It's just a bad implementation in my opinion, so occasionally I just stock up on some cheap cables and swap when they wear out. Personally, I buy mine from Cable Mart and order in small bulk quantities to get better pricing.

I've had some cheap ones last awhile while others not so much. They work for a couple of months most the time if that helps and won't damage your phone.

I find cheap cable on cheap charger doesn't charge. But cable via laptop does and cheap cable via stock plug works.
