Default File transfer to MacBook - no previews of pics/vids etc?

    Hello,

Although I've had my Galaxy for a couple of months now, I'm still learning how to use it

One of my main queries is though, file transfer from my Galaxy to my MacBook Pro - why can't I see previews of what I'm transferring? I have to transfer the file to my MacBook, and then decide if I want to keep it or not because that's the only way it'll reveal what it is. I thought I'd be able to SEE what's on my phone to then be able to select what I want to transfer. But all I see are file names which as you know are always just like IMG_0000786597.jpg

Is there another file transfer program someone could suggest? Or is the one from android.com the only one I can use?

P.S. Completely unrelated, but if someone could give me an idiots guide to what Jelly Bean, KitKat, Honeycomb etc is that'd be great. I really want to use my phone to the best of it's abilities, but there's so much I need to learn because there are so many possibilities it seems!

P.P.S. Oh and another thing, why does my SwiftKey keyboard take ages to appear? Like, a good 3 - 4 seconds sometimes before I can type anything because there's no keyboard there!

Thanks to anyone in advance who can answer any of my inane questions

Have you taken a look at the wireless solutions such as WiFi File Explorer or Air Droid? Those are great alternatives. Also, I'm pretty sure Samsung has their Kies desktop client available for Mac, so take a look at that as an option.

Regarding SwiftKey, go into the phone settings > applications > SwiftKey and clear cache. See if that helps.

With the various android versions I'll post resources for you to read shortly.

I'm not sure which "one from Android.com" you mean, but you can wirelessly transfer any kind of file from your Android device to your MacBook if you install a personal cloud, for instance Dropbox or MEGA, on both the MacBook and the Android device (free Dropbox app; free MEGA app). Just upload the file(s) to that cloud and it/they will automagically be available on the other device.

    This one: Android.com

OP: Here is a breakdown of the Android release history: Android version history - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Click show more after each OS Version to see notes on the various versions - hope this helps, lets us know if you have further questions!

Haven't got it to work, though.

I agree. For me using services to automatically upload/backup photos and other files is the easiest thing to do.
