Will current and new apps work for version 2.2?

I was planning to get a HTC and the only thing I was concerned about is the android version installed.

    Welcome to Android Central
Android 2.2 is really old by now. You're likely going to have trouble with a lot of popular apps, especially if you like to play games. Which device were you planning to get?

I was planning to get the HTC inspire unlocked gsm. It's just what I need; affordable, fast enough, and not too expensive.

I'm not a heavy gamer, more important would be functional apps like editing documents and photos. If 2.2 is really not gonna work I was thinking about the Moto G.

why do you say RIP to Motorola?

I would highly recommend the Moto G, over any low-end of mid-range device, really. Great specs for the price and gets software updates faster than most of the flagships.
R.I.P. to Motorola because they were sold to Lenovo (Deal hasn't gone through, but it probably will)
It's a joke. We've yet to see if that will have any effect on them as opposed to how they would have done with Google

Yeah, stay away from really old phones. They're almost certainly used and/or refurbished, so there's a higher chance of problems. But the senility of Android 2.2 would be the main liability. So many apps that are coming out these days will be incompatible.

I second the Moto G. You will be much happier with it and won't have trouble running newer apps.

Moto g is the way to go, especially if you are with certain carriers, it could be as low as $100
