I live in the US but I hate the cruddy stupid horrible measurement system we use here yet I can't figure out how to set my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 to only use metric measurements. When I ask for the local weather it gives it to me in Fahrenheit even though I want Celsius. The only way I can get it to show it Celsius is I have to say "weather Celsius". I did change maps to kilometers.

Are you talking about Google Now? Go to the Google Now screen, scroll all the way to the bottom, and tap the wand icon. Then tap "Everything Else," and choose Celsius where it asks you what temperature units you prefer.

Tried it as it still default to stupid Fahrenheit just because I am in the US. Even now when I say weather Celsius it will say the weather in Celsius but show it in stupid Fahrenheit. I have to live in America with its stupid outdated confusing measurements.

We americans actually like our measuring system! There is an old saying"when in rome, do as the romans do" but i do understand that we should change everything to make you and other foreigners feel at home!

Actually we should change to the metric system because it makes sense to change. But we won't in my lifetime, and probably not in the lifetime of a kid just born today who's going to live a long time.

(Quick, and don't look it up - how many rods in a furlong? Now - how many decameters in a kilometer? See why it makes sense?)

Switching to the metric system makes sense because it's used by the vast majority of the world and much easier to make conversions. That's why scientists (even in U.S.) use the metric system.

I try to do everything metric even have a metric tape measure but it is impossible to use with the cruddy system we use here. I measure something in centimeters and have to convert it to inches with horrible fractions because that is what we use here and that is what I have to give a carpenter. Then I have to use a fraction calculator app.

Put simply, the metric system is divided into tens. Makes everything so much easier. I am curious if this might work: resetting the device and setting it up under English UK? That might change the default measuring units.

I have been a diesel mechanic for 22 years. I remember a few years back we were supposed to switch to world standards when it came to diesel engines (stuff like #1 cyl always at the flywheel etc). And while European manufactures complied, American ones did not. I worked for a German manufacture Deutz here in the States and spent many service calls repairing mistakes made by techs a not aware of the new European standards, like trying to set fuel timing thinking #1 cylinder was at the front of the engine. I also found the metric system was easier to use when taking measurements with micrometers etc.

No, Americans don't 'like' their measuring system. They simply don't know, they cockily don't want to know, nor understand any other measuring system. As they demonstrated in 2004 when a 250 million dollar 6 year Mars lander project crashed to smithereens on the red planet because American mechanics had mixed up the systems... :-D
I coundn't stop laughing for a week!

There is an old saying"when in rome, do as the romans do" but i do understand that we should change everything to make you and other foreigners feel at home!

'Rome', in this case, is the entire planet Earth, minus Birma, Liberia, and... America, Kilroy! Just 3 countries out of 208! Who don't "do as the Romans do"! Obviously the stupidest countries.
Even North Korea is smarter than America in that respect! LOL!
So America is definitely NOT doing as the Romans do! By steadfastly and pigheadedly refusing to change measuring systems America demonstrates over and over again how conservative it is even when plain common sense dictates otherwise.
Common sense clearly isn't an American trait.

Even the stupid fan in my window only shows the temperature in Fahrenheit. I feel like putting a peace of black tape over it.

The thing is English UK using the 24 hour clock and date/month/year which I find to confusing to get use to. Now there are countries who use the 12 hour clock show month/date/year and they are metric.

I still can't believe you can't just change things like this in settings without having to change regions.

I don't think the metric system has anything to do with socialism.

Do you really think switching to the metric system is part of a global socialist agenda? Doesn't make much sense if you know about the history of the US measurement system. It's a modified version of the British Imperial system.

I kind of regard all of those European countries that use the metric system as not quite third world.

I believe the original point of this thread was getting their device to switch over to Celsius. In the process it was mentioned about the metric system.

Let's keep it on topic please.

Enjoy the holiday and remember those who have given for this country and elsewhere.
