How to always wake up at home screen?

Scenario:
I am using an app, and then presses the power-button to lock the phone.
When pressing the power-button to wake up the phone, it resumes the last used app.

Question:
How can I make it always return to home screen when it locks?

Before you press the home button you have to close whatever app you are in. That is the only way I know how it's done.

It's a bit of a "hack," but if you use a custom lockscreen (like WidgetLocker) or a mod that allows you to change your lockscreen shortcuts (I'm not sure what would be available on the HTC One X, but on the Nexus 5 there are options like GravityBox or ROMs like Cyanogenmod) you can set the unlock action to be "launching an app" and point it towards your launcher. I know that the Google Now Launcher and replacements like Nova and Apex can be handled in this way, not sure about the HTC launcher.
