I have the Nexus 7 2013 LTE tablet and I have not signed up for cell service yet so I want to disable it so it does not drain the battery pinging towers. I notice the icon stays in the notification bar and Cell Standby drains 20-30% of the battery over the week even without a SIM card but I see no way to disable it other than Airplane mode. I've seen some phones that let you turn this completely off but turning off Data Enabled does not do it.

Turn on airplane mode, then turn on whatever you want enabled (like wifi). That won't (or shouldn't) turn the cellphone radio back on.

That's what I said I did. I'm looking for a way to do it without having to use Airplane mode so I don't have to manually enable things.
