In September, I will be going to Asia, specifically, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. I'll be spending most of my time in China, and Vietnam. I need a smartphone that I can use in these countries. Could someone suggest one? My budget is around $300.

I know next to nothing about cell phones. I just have a prepaid one for emergencies. I'd like it to be compatible to T-Mobile, if possible, as I go to the U.S. sometimes and like its roaming plan.

Thank you kindly for any input you can give me.

    Lee Ann.

You need a phone that handles the frequencies used in Asia and also the frequencies used in the US. I don't think you're going to fins one, unlocked, and new, for the money you're looking to spend. There are phones that will work, but they cost considerably more than $300.

What phone would you suggest? I am looking at Mot G global GSM mobile. Would this mobile work in the countries I'll visit?

    Thanks.

I haven't researched it, so I wouldn't know, but that's what you'll have to do. Find a carrier in each country that has pre-paid accounts (not all carriers in all countries do pre-pay). Find out which frequencies each one uses. Find a phone that covers all those frequencies for 2G plus whatever data level (3G, 4G, 4GLTE) you want.

There's no guarantee that any given "global" phone will work with all carriers in all modes, just that it handles SOME frequencies used by SOME carrier, no matter where you go (as long as there's GSM service, or the phone also does CDMA and there's a carrier there that accepts phones not theirs on their network [unlike Verizon and Sprint]).

IOW, the phone has "global" coverage, but "global" doesn't mean what you think it does.
