Default Mommy, Daddy - where do emoji's come from.

I have no issue. I have a Note 3 on 4.4 with emoji, and am not sure if they were there on 4.3 as I have only recently discovered their uses.

I have answered two Q&A's on this unsuccessfully.

One had a Note 2 on 4.3; one had a GS4 on 4.4. Both were looking for the emoji on the stock Samsung keyboard.
Trust me, they were not there. Screenshots flying everywhere.

The 2nd GS4 noobie came back after I had suggested SwiftKey to both of them. They were not on SwiftKey either.

I remember a recent post saying they are built in to the phone os, and any keyboard uses those.

Is this true, and how can each of the above get them back?

[Also I mostly use the ones in Tapatalk for these forums, so I had presumed they are in the Tapatalk app?]

Where are the emoticons on the Samsung keyboard?

Off the top of my head, does Swiftkey have an emoji add on?

Edit: typed in emoji keyboard on Play, and got about 7 hits; all free. Google being one of them:

On Google keyboard, you get emoji by long-pressing the Return key (which has a little ellipse at the corner, indicating more options). Are there any keys on the Samsung keyboards with ellipses? Have all of those been long-pressed?

We know how to access them on the Samsung and SwiftKey but why are they not there for some. Sounds like any keyboard won't have them on some phones, where identical models do. I use SwiftKey mostly. They are there with the Samsung and SwiftKey keyboard for me. There have been other posts.

I will find who said that about then being on the phone, later.

Maybe the carrier restricted them? Might that be the difference?

It sounds plausible. One (S4) is on Videotron(?), but the other is on US T-Mobile.
Someone you would know and trust said they have to be on the device. I haven't tracked it down.

Reason I asked that is sometimes carriers in the US remove/add features. From a diagnostic point of view, this adds headaches that don't need to be there if Samsung locked the basic apps.
