I would like to start off saying thanks to all of the posters on this website. I have come to this website many times over the past couple years and have gotten A LOT of useful info, so thank you.
So I have the HTC EVO, and I am interested in rooting it only for Wi-Fi Tethering and for erasing the Sprint preloaded Apps. My question is, will I be able to do this with only the information provided on these tutorials

I have read all of the other rooting instructions and tutorials, but I have decided that these would be the only features I would want to Root my phone, so I want to keep it as simple and worry free as possible with the least amount of steps. Any suggestions? Will I be fine with just the tutorials I listed? Thank you!
