Cannot send group messages using Google voice number from within hangouts, why?

Before Google updated the Hangouts app, you could send mass text messages from within the google voice application. However since updating and adding google voice to hangouts (which I think is awesome) you can not add more than one recipient to a text message when you are using your google voice number. It makes no sense. It will only allow you to send one message at a time using your google voice number on hangouts, but before you could send it to multiple recipients on the google voice application. Has anyone else noticed this, and know a work around? I enjoy using the hangouts with integration but this is kind of a big deal for my wife.

I have the same problem - I agree, it's a huge flaw that makes no sense. The only fix I've found is in the Hangouts settings - SMS, to send from my carrier number. Unlike Google Voice or Smart reply, this option returns the "anyone else?" gray box.
