Senior Smart Phone

I am buying mother in-law a new phone. She is 77 and only wants to use it as a phone (Dialer).

I live in Canada my choice of senior friendly phones is poor.
It must work on AWS (1700/2100MHz). Because of these limitations, I will just buy a $100 smartphone from the carrier.

I plan to put a senior friendly launcher on the phone "Wiser", but the phone wouldn't be locked down from accidental charges over data. Turning the toggle for data off isn't sufficient protection from accidental usage in my opinion.

I wanted to know if I deleted the APN "internet.windmobile.ca" Would the phone still make phone calls and would this disable the data connection to the network?

Re: Senior Smart Phone

Welcome to Android Central! What about going to Settings>Data Usage, and turning "Set Cellular Data Limit" on?

Re: Senior Smart Phone

I personally know what your dealing with. My moms first smart phone was a birthday gift this year (64)! I asked my phone company to block any internet access, they did at no extra cost to me and she was able to text and make calls just fine.
