AC Question

thumbnails and dcim

Hello.. Confused over where pictures are saved and why 2 photos i never took appeared in my thumbnails.
1. I noticed when trying to back up my photo's to the pc that 2 photo's appeared that i did not recognise and never took. Where could these of come from, they were not downloads
2. Can someone please help explain why there are so many folders such as dcim and thumbnails.. Android etc for both sd and internal memory as it gets so confusing.
I appreciate any help with this :) thank you.

Re: thumbnails and dcim

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have?

The Camera app should be saving photos to /DCIM/Camera/ (although some devices might use a different directory, like the HTC One M8 using the /DCIM/100MEDIA/ directory instead).

Thumbnails can include images that are cached by other apps (like the browser) for later use. If you use the Windows "Import Photos and Videos" function, it doesn't really discriminate, and imports all images (including cached images and thumbnails). This can be pretty messy, so I usually recommend using Windows Explorer and manually selecting which photos to copy.
