Re: whats the highest temerature a battery of a cell phone get

Welcome to Android Central! Do you mean what's the safe operating range, or how hot could it possibly get? The hotter a battery gets (either from internal or external heating), the faster it will discharge, so in general, you want to keep the battery temp under around 45-50C. If it runs higher for sustained periods of time, I'd be worried about the battery catching fire or exploding. Re: whats the highest temerature a battery of a cell phone get

The highest temperature a lithium battery of the type used in cellphones should be subjected to is 60C. That's not steady, normal operating temperature, it's "you won't kill the battery if it gets that hot for a few minutes" temperature. Normally it shouldn't go over 50C.

As far as how hot it could get, it can easily get to 500C if fully charged and shorted. Tests show venting at 470C, and the vented gas can ignite at that temperature if it comes in contact with the hot battery (and even cause an explosion). IOW, you don't want to put a cellphone battery into a pocket with keys or loose change unless you want a fast below the hip amputation.
