2015, Smartphone USB tethering with no charges

Does anyone know if, with any of the newest Android smartphones such as Samsung S6 Edge, S5, S4 Note, HTC M8/M9, or similar if that USB tethering can be used on these phones without the need to root, unlock, S-OFF or similar work around functioning? This is to use the smartphone without any extra service charges than the given data plan for the phone itself. This is being asked to see if this type of connection to a computer has actually been tried using one of these newest phone rather than guessing or assumptions.

Granted, if a masking app such as PDANet or similar is need to use this, than that can be accommodated. Also, the carrier of interest is T-Mobile.

If so, which phones can do this and/or which cannot with, ideally, a why not?

Thank you in advance.

If the carrier blocks tethering at its end (I don't know if TMobile does or not), there's nothing you can do on the phone to change that (other than hack their system, but they don't allow inmates in federal prison access to either cellphones or the internet). If they don't, any tethering app should work. (They block th native app on the phone, but you can install any of many free apps.)
