ES File Explorer problem, Cann't login shared folder

I have a home server used windows server 2012 R2, the laptop with windows 7 can access the shared folder, but the ES File explorer didn't.
The ES File Explorer can found the share folder but while I input the username and password there was a error message:

"Login fails. This may be caused by:
- WLAN is off
- SMB Server is out of network scope
- The IP is invalid
- Blocked by the firewall
- SMB service is off"

I wish I had an answer.... simply having the same trouble suddenly. We have 4 android devices at various os levels. The server is accessible from our win 10 laptops. The server itself is an old Hammer NAS (file server, print server, usb dock) that I've had for several years and never updated (it aint broke, besides the company is no longer operating, as far as I know).

So that eliminates an android os or a windows update that could have caused it (not sure .... it might even be linux based, tho unlikely). I've also eliminated es file explorer by installing 2 other android apps - neither of which work to access the share (smb).

If anyone 'out there' has any suggestions, I'd be ever so grateful!
