the currently connected phone does not support text messaging via bluetooth

I have a captivate with ATT and recently sync'd with my 2011 Ford Edge. One of the features of the MY Touch and Ford Sync is that you can have your text messages displayed and even read (text to voice) on the Sync/My Touch system. Unfortunately, I get this message "the currently connected phone does not support text messaging via bluetooth". Is there some kind of app or upgrade I can get to have this ability?
