In Europe and in Asia, many wifi networks use channels 12 and 13 (and possibly 14). My Nexus S does not find wifi networks on these channels. This is very annoying since a lot of networks use these channels. My Nexus One does not have a problem with these channels.
I am posting this in the general forum as I believe it is an issue with the Android OS. In the case of Nexus S, it could additionally be a hardware issue. For previous versions of Android (I believe pre-Froyo), there was a setting under the advanced wifi settings named Regulatory Domain which allowed you to enable these channels. This setting is no longer avaiable in Android.
