android 2.2 speech to text language problems

The speech to text in my 2.2 phone (optimus s) simply refuses to accept english as my language even though I've set it to english us in the phone settings.
No matter what I say into the mic it is translated to spanish or french apparently at random.

This only happens when the keyboard microphone button is used, the voice search and voice dialer apps function fine, and in english. Any ideas?

Update: This only happens when the swype input is selected, when i choose the standard android keyboard the voice is recognized as english.
So i'm guessing this is a swype issue

Edit again: okay fixed problem by setting language as english in swype settings (doh!) leaving this post to help others who may have the same problem. Access swype settings with swype i key and options tab
