Any keyboard I try has issues - won't come up when in text area

I've been using SwiftKey forever. However the last month or so I've run into a problem where if I go type a text or enter a URL in the browser (Chrome), the keyboard won't pop up. I have to hit the back button (triangle) and then go back to the app, sometimes several times. Once it does come it will lag at random times.

I've tried uninstall/reinstall Swiftkey.
I've tried uninstall SwiftKey and using stock.
Same thing.

I've done rebooting and battery pulls and many times over the last month and that does nothing.

I cleared cache for the keyboard app, deleted files, deleted pics and old texts, space is not an issue. I can everything closed, no apps running, after a fresh restart and this will still happen.

What is going on?

Try the setting Reset App Preferences, which will re-enable disabled apps and put the stock keyboard and browser etc back, but you can change those again.

It really does help with issues like these.

It may be in Apps - All - 3 dot menu - Reset App Preferences.
