Why does text open last text reply by default?

why does text open last text reply by default

I click on the text icon, intending to text someone. what comes up is the last text sent to me and i am set into a reply box. I do text different people and want to know how to get it to allow me to compose a text to someone other than the last person to text me. Seems so counter intuitive that you wouldn't just ask who you intend to text instead of deciding for you.

Which phone and messaging app are you using? I'm not sure if I completely understand your problem. It seems that after you read a message you exit the app pressing the home button so it's still open next time you access the app. Try pressing the back key after reading a text and then exit the app
