ringtones

Hi. I did some research and figured out how to add my personal mp3 ringtones to my contacts. I created new contact, typed in same name, assigned the ringtone and saved. They merged or linked together and all was well. However, from several days ago to today, most of the contacts have reverted back to default tones. Not sure what I did if anything, but hoping someone has similar situation so I can get this working again.

Now in some cases, when i look at ringtones on the contact page, it shows 2 or even 3 ringtones sections of the same song. It's pretty frustrating for sure. Any ideas?
