Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Do you actually use an Exchange email? If not, disable Exchange Services in the Settings>Apps>All menu.

Even if you use it, it' using 53% of the amount of power being used, not 53% of the battery capacity. That could be 53% of 2% of the battery capacity.

If you're using it, and have an app checking Exchange mail every 5 minutes, it's going to use a lot of battery. If you have to get mail immediately, and you can't convince the administrator to set up an IMAP account for you, you'll have to put up with it.
