Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

Every 5-10 minutes I'm getting an error that reads "removing geofences by ID failed error code 1000" immediately followed by another message saying "add geofences failure, error code 1000" I went to Sprint & Best Buy but can't seem to get a fix nowhere. Help fellow Android users before I switch to Apple. Lol.

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? Do you have any 3rd party map or location apps installed?

Try going to Settings>Apps>All, select Maps, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then force stop. See if the problem recurs.

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

Thanks for the welcome. I have the Note 5. I don't have any 3rd part maps just Google maps. I tried what you recommended, let me give it a few minutes to see if works.

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

I did have it activated with Google. I turned it off and I haven't seen the error messages anymore. Thank you all.

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

Do you use smart lock with trusted places?

Hello. I am getting the exact same message on my LGV10. I have no idea what smart lock with trusted places even is. I only have the basic swipe on my phone. I did also get it a couple of times on my Note 4 (still use it with Wi-Fi only for certain apps). I never got the message on my Note 4 until AFTER I upgraded to the LGV10. Can someone please help???

I am suddenly getting this message also on my s6 edge running 5.1.1 I have had the phone since april without this happening. I use a gear fit to unlock my phone as well as my car and a bluetooth speaker(I teach yoga and use my phone and this speaker for music-I don't want to have to unlock with my fingerprint while I am teaching) so I don't want to turn off the smartlock feature. is there another way to resolve this issue?

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

I'm having the same issue with my s5 and it started about a week ago.

There is a blog with an answer and fix. Unfortunately I can't post links yet.
Basically in Settings-> locations and access-> Check the enable wifi and gps option on the emulator and it will fix it

See the stackoverflow blog, question 19082482/error-adding-geofences-in-android-status-code-1000

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

So I have to have location enabled in order to get the error code to stop popping up? I don't ever keep my "location" enabled as it drains my battery!

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

I also keep my location turned off unless needed. It's been recently that it started showing up to

I set mine to High Accuracy and then turned Location off. Haven't seen the message since. To save battery I generally have WiFi off unless absolutely needed. Apps won't auto update without it, I can get those at home while plugged in. Instead of running out of power late afternoon, I get home at night with 45%.
BTW a 2 year old 16GB S4 with only 1.5GB free space running tons of apps, using SD card for storage.

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

I set to high accuracy, then turned location off and I'm still getting the message.

Same here...set to high accuracy and turned off location. Error code still pops up.

Hello. I believe this error is being caused by something that is constantly checking for location. I too was getting this error and I fixed it by removing the weather widget off my home screen. I don't know if this will work for anyone else. Try looking for a widget or something that needs to locate you.

I have the note edge and I also turned off the use current location off my weather updates on the edge.

Re: Very annoying error message. Geofences fail.

Hi,
I'm not a super "tech-savvy" person but after some research, here's what worked for me:
Go to settings, then location. It will list apps in your phone that have most recently requested your location. In my case, it was a Charlotte Russe app (never would have suspected). Upon further thought/research, the message began after I downloaded that app. I also found out that it did use geofences (whatever that means). That process is apparently not uncommon in apps these days as a way of marketing.

I uninstalled the charlotte russe app and the error messages stopped. It was that simple.

I'm sure that if it turned out to be an irreplaceable app that you could do more research into counteracting/turning off whatever is causing the message in order to keep the app but this was my immediate and simple way to fix.

Good luck!

After reading this entire thread, I found that the offending app for me was Michaels! I uninstalled it and the messages are gone!
