Why is my Google apps only connecting over wifii?

Google apps only connecting over wifii

I recently noted that all my google apps are not able to use my data network and only work when on wifii. I have a S5 and AT&T plan.
My google+, google news app, hangouts etc. now say they cannot find a Internet connection when I am not on wifii but there is a goog 4G connection. However all other apps work fine so it is not an internet issue.
What I have tried are various suggestions from the internet including:
- Deleting and re-adding my gmail account. Even that would only sync once on wifii.
- Restarting the phone
- Removing cache/data from google framework, google play etc.
- Checking that there is no background data restriction on the apps

Running out of ideas.. any help appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Try resetting app preferences. Settings>Apps>menu>reset app preferences. This sometimes helps with Play issues.

It's really strange how that works. I am not sure why, but I know it does, and it is a fix that isn't as time consuming as a reset.
