How can I get swipe to exit screen saver to respond?

swipe to exit screen saver doesn't respond

While running app, when I go to check my phone, and swipe to exit screen saving mode, phone doesn't respond. Sometimes the option to swipe doesn't even come up. It takes over 20 minutes to get it to let me past the swipe and back to the home screen. Is there a program on the phone for this swipe feature that I can reinstall? (It happens when running any app - I checked to make sure it wasn't just one app causing this)

Welcome to Android Central! Sorry, can you clarify a few things? Which phone do you have? If it's running an app, are you not attending to the phone? By "screen saving mode," do you mean the lockscreen, or do you have Daydream turned on?
