Why can't I see images on the pc when I connect my phone via USB?

cant see images on the pc when connected my phone via USB

Hello, im trying to transfer my pictures from phone to a hard drive. When connected to the PC I cant see the pics in the DCIM folder, however it does show that its eating up space from the phone. I can definitely see these on my phone as well. Is there a way to search for these images when connected to the USB?

Welcome to Android Central! First, make sure the phone's screen is unlocked, since a locked phone can't be read by the computer. Second, is the phone connected as an MTP device? Swipe down the notification panel, tap the USB icon, and make sure MTP is selected. Third, are you looking at the correct /DCIM/Camera directory? If you have a microSD card inserted, there might be two of these directories, one on the card and one on Internal Storage.
