What does the N stand for on top of my screen it wasn't there before my update

My phone rings softly then gets louder it use to tell me who was calling but since the update it doesn't do that anymore how can I fix this problem?

Welcome.

If the N is stylised, it may indicate NFC. Turn that off if you don't need it.
A Cache Partition wipe after an system update is good practice....try that.
Also, check that your Settings in Sound & Notification have not been changed.
