How do I retrieve photos off my broken phone?

I dropped my phone and now it's stuck on the bootloader screen. I've chosen all the options on the screen but it just circles back to the bootloader.
I tried syncing it with the HTC Sync Manager and the phone can't be detected, but you can still hear the connecting sounds.
Can I get my photos off the phone without getting it professionally fixed?
(I don't know anything about phones or computers.)
