I had a major failure in syncing contacts between my phone and Google Cloud. I maintain my contacts on PC Chrome Contacts and had backup there and on my phone via the Contact Export facility. I tried importing the PC backup into Chrome but discovered that there was a problem...
(1) Backup on phone via the Contacts App export to VCF = A. Importing A into the phone app restored everything, but sync with the PC failed.
(2) Backup on the PC via the Chrome export to VCF = B. Importing B into Chrome restored all the contact details, but no photos.
(3) Upload phone backup (B) to PC = C. Importing C into Chrome restored the photos but messed up the contact details.
Eventually I was able to recover by deleting everything at both ends, syncing (resulting in no contacts at both ends), then importing A into the phone app (restored everything), and sync with the PC succeeded.
I'm surprised that (2) did not restore photos. Accident (a bug) or design?
