gmail notifications not happening timely

Is anyone else having a problem with getting gmail notifications on their phone? I have an Incredible. Say I'm on Facebook and see that I have a notification on there that someone replied to a message or commented on a post. I'd almost immediately have a gmail notification on my phone announcing the comment or whatever. Now, I'm getting these emails like 4-5 hours later. And it's not just Facebook emails as even "regular" emails to the account aren't being pushed notified until hours later. Any clue on what's happening and/or a way to solve the problem? Thanks!
