How to unfreeze my phone

Hi,
as i pressed down the home button on my android to get rid of some off the apps that I was using my phone froze those apps in place. And now the the lock screen is showing up but those apps are still frozen over the lock screen and I cant access into my phone. What do I do?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? If you can remove the battery, pull it for 10 seconds, then reinsert and power back on. If the battery is not removable, then press and hold Power for 15-20 seconds (Power and Vol Down if it's a Samsung device) to force a shutdown.
