How do I use the back and home icons on the Kyocera Hydro?

How to use the back and home icons on Kyocera hydro

My Kyocera hydro has not been dropped or exposed to water. My phone died before I could put it on the charger. Once I turned it on after the charge was complete I used the bottom icons to unlock my phone. Once I had it unlocked the home and back icon is not working. Plz help me fix this aggravating issue

You can install an app like pie control and use the buttons through it.
