Is there a way to easily toggle on / off the 4G LTE, and only use 3G? On my iphone I could do this to conserve battery and eliminate hourly LTE cell-tower pings, since I live in an area with no 4G signal anyways.

Most phones will let you do this from the Mobile Networks Settings by switching from 4G to 3G mode. There used to be a switch in some phones specifically for LTE, but I haven't seen one in quite some time. There ARE widgets that let you do that, but I'm not sure if those need root to make the changes (they're basically automating the task of going to the settings and going into 3G mode).

Yeah I am looking for an easy toggle switch on/off... that would be preferred over digging deep into the network settings for those times I need 4G data. There are quite a few apps... I was hoping someone has first hand experience with one of them, which ones actually do/don't work efficiently

thanks!!

Hope anyone that's used them chimes in... but the truth is LTE is no longer the battery drain it used to be. In some regions, 3G can actually be more of a drain if the cells in a certain area are fully updated to 4G, leaving 3G in further transmitters or with 'less room' for connections.
