delete previous update files of applications

applications keep asking for updates. some won't open unless they are updated. i want to delete the files installed in previous updates to empty some space on my tablet. i can't delete the app each time and then install it from the beginning. that's a lot of wasted time signing in again

Welcome to Android Central! Which tablet? What do you mean by "files installed in previous updates"? Are you talking about the apk files downloaded by Google Play Store during the update? Those files are typically kept in the system cache partition, and are occasionally purged by the system. You shouldn't have to worry about it. If your tablet has the option, you could boot into Recovery and wipe the cache partition yourself.
