Astro Tab A10 10" Tablet is very slow. Is there a ROM for this model?

I have the Astro Tab A10, bought new on amazon. It has specs found on NewEgg with Item 9SIA66D3VA5538
It is painfully slow, even considering the $90 price tag. It has a octo-core cpu, and performs slower than dual-core tablets I have used. There is virtually no info online I have been able to find. Is there any hope for a ROM speeding this rig up, or did I get stuck with a $90 paperweight? I have done semi-complex ROM installs in the past, btw.

Is there something that's specifically slow, or is it general? Does it remain slow in Safe Mode as well? On most Android devices, while powered on, press and hold Power until the Power Off menu appears. Press and hold the Power Off selection until the Safe Mode prompt appears. Tap OK.
