My phone lost its smarts

I bought a LG Optimus S attached to my Boost mobile number. Everything was done for me and I was not told to switch my MEID over. After sometime the wifi stopped working, then I lost data. I did a reset on the phone and now all I get is a white screen telling me to get a Sprint ID pack but I can still receive/send calls and texts on the device. Call Boost and Sprint and was told that it was reported lost by the previous owner and to get the owner to call Sprint to clear it up. I bought the phone through Ebay and doubt the seller will contact me back since he barely responded when the issues first began. I have been reading as much as I can and I don't want to accept that I just have a paper weight now or a phone that is simply a phone. I would try to root myself but I think I am too dumb for the idiot's guide, do I have any options?

Rooting won't help if it has been blacklisted.

Your only option is to get the seller to release it. Nothing you can do will help if it is blacklisted.
