So here's the skinny: I'm on liberty ROM 2.0 (NOT gingerbread). I have a mac. So all of the sbf'ing required to get to .340 to get to root gingerbread -- not going to happen. There is no way in hell i'm buying xp to run on my mac for anything in the entire world, including getting to gingerbread liberty.

So, that means my rooting days are over for now. I need to unroot. But, now i'm confused. If I flash back to stock, unroot, can't I just get the gingerbread update OTA? Or at least .340?

Is there any way to get to .340 without sbf'ing? I've heard maderstock doesn't actually work for getting to .340 to gingerbread root. Is there an organic way of doing it that involved unrooting and getting OTA updated? I'd be more then happy to try stock gingerbread for a while.

Basically, there has to be a way for me to unroot and get to stock gingerbread. And there HAS to be a way to get folks from stock gingerbread to root gingerbread otherwise everyone who buys a new phone with GB on it will be out of luck - which doesn't make any sense.

Can someone point me towards a way to do this?

Let me guess... You fubarred it, and wish to return to the factory, in hopes you will recieve a new device,

In turn, if the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, you will fubar the next device.

I suppose you don't have insurance for your device?

ahhhh,,, you'll get a 500 dollar yearly insurance policy for a POS ford, but you won't pay 100 dollars yearly for your phone.

Which is probably more important than that POS Ford.

First off, the tech's , will probaly hook your phone/tablet into their magic box and flash all original software. Then they will look for bad hardware. Run their benchchecks, then if all is ok, will ship it to the discount division.

I suggest wiping all porno off the device. Including personal videos. Techs, love this stuff.

If you have a high powered electro magnet, used to wipe VHS tapes, I suggest using it. If not, 5 or ten seconds in the microwave will suffice.

You can put it in the toilet, but the techs know if you you did this. Water damage is obvious.

Just send it in, the techs don't care if it's rooted or Rommed.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Anyone care to read my issue and comment with some knowledge? Ill try again. You can't sbf on Mac and I want gingerbread. I am currently rooted. If I flash back to stock will I be able to upgrade to stock gingerbread with ease? If so, will I then be able to get rooted gingerbread with ease?

Thanks for the help, and thanks in advance for not going on random tangents about my broken device that doesn't exist and all the porn on my phone which I never mentioned :)

You did not state which device you have, but I'm going to assume it's a Moto Droid/Milestone of one flavor or another. My advice is go to the forum for your Droid, go to the ROM's and Hacks section of that forum and look for the unroot and Update threads. I'm positive your answers are there.

Here's a link to all the Moto Droid Forums to get started.

I'm guessing you had a bad day, because you are usually more helpful than this.

Sorry Stig, it was a bad week......

My apologies to the original poster.

It just seemed like another person who fubarred their device, and wanted to return it, to get a replacement.

Now that I am in a normal train of thought, as Stig said, we need to know the specific device,

With phones, we generally flash what's called a stock RUU. It's an exe file, that pretty much flashes back to stock. Note that you can also search google, and find the stock RUU specifically from your provider.

But, the providers don't really care. As long as it is stock.

If you flash back to stock, will you be able to flash to GB with ease? Yes, if you are rooted, and flash a stock froyo.

If you flash back to a RUU, no, because you will probably lose root. And you will probably have to root again.

Moscow Desire, I read some of your posts and decided you know what you're talking about. ;) I have an Inspire that I dropped in water. I disassembled it immediately and took it to the local phone Dr within 15 minutes. He dried it and it's good as new. Problem: The mic stopped working about 4 days after the incident. Note: I had issued with the mic before the water fiasco and just attributed it to software as I rooted it a couple of months ago and seemed to have the mic issue after flashing a rom. I don't believe the water fried the mic, but as I had flashed and reflashed and reverted and wiped and reset, and nothing worked, I took it back to the phone Dr. to replace the mic. He did so but it has not fixed the mic problem. I have tried to talk using the speakerphone, but nobody can hear me either way. I hear them fine. I'm lost and screwed because of the water damage. I've also had work done to the phone (replacing the mic) which I guess might void the warranty? I comtemplated changing the battery (to get one with white sticker rather than red) and just claiming ignorance on the pink label on the phone or humidity issue or something. But to do that, I need to un-root s-on my device. I've used the s-on tool, but when I rebooted it still showed s-off. After I flash the un-root rom I won't be able to do s-on tool so I haven't done that yet. Ummmmm is any of this making any sense? I admit I'm a woman and blonde at that. Do you have any suggestions regarding un-root, s-on, mic not working due to hw sw issue? Thanks so much. :'(
