My biggest beefs with screen protectors are the diminished clarity of the screen and bubbles. And that's why i stopped wasting money on them.

I know what you mean on the bubbles.Either I got real lucky with mine as to not having bubbles the dry application type are the worse for getting bubbles.
I got one small bubble in the corner of the S3 not really a major impact.
I dont have any bubbles on my Nexus but it does have a few scratches on the screen protector where I have slid my finger across alot.,still not Major issue yet that makes me want to put new screen protector on.
I used the tape trick to apply mine last time.Taped it into place where everything lined up then lifted up the entire screen protector , removed the side that sticks to phone screen and smoothed it out, then removed the top side of protector.
That way you just have to worry with getting the bubbles out and not constanly checking if everything is still lined up.
As far as the screen clarity goes well I agree you are going to tell you got screen protector on it compaired to a phone that doesnt have a screen protector any day of the week.
I have thought about getting that glass screen protector that available for the Nexus, suppose to be guaranteed no bubbles ,but it is pricey (around 30 bucks)and not sure if I could use my slim back case with it
Screen protectors are the devil.
