Arrow Android 4.1 opens doors with NFC

I came across an interesting use of Android and NFC. The Android phone becomes a key:

Well thats really nothing special, thats one of first applications NFC (and before it become standardized under name "NFC"). We had NFC cards in my old work door opener and check-in since each one had unique code and it keeps in track when somebody come in or out

NFC in practice is just different way to transfer data from card (electronic and magnetic cards also carried data), so every applications that used those cards can be replaced with NFC.

Yes I understand that NFC is old, and other RFID technologies have been used for a long time.

What I think though is special, is that the phone can receive the permissions, and I haven't seen any app yet besides this one that does this.
