How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
Way to screw up Sony. Hardly any public attention is being given to the ZL variant because you decided to release two phones with the same specs, but lavish all your advertising on the glassy backed one so you could market a waterproof gimmick. Sony made so little noise about the ZL version that everyone will ignore it. The developer support for the ZL is probably going to suck. And I'm going to bet you'll provide the Z faster OTA updates than the ZL too judging by how they've handled the launch. On the other hand, HTC is doing it right. One phone, one focus on marketing and support. You hear lots coming out of the Samsung advertising machine about the SG4. Anyone hearing much about the Xperia Z, let alone the ZL? Cricket....cricket....
We all know that Samsung, HTC and Sony will probably stop updating the Android OS version on these phones in about 1 year (approximate). If I buy the HTC One I'm probably going to stand a much better chance of getting developer ROMs than I will on the ZL because you've allowed this phone to become forgotten and ignored right from launch. You should've taken a cue from HTC and just released the Z, and no ZL at all. Instead you've scattered your launch with 2 variants and made sure that we cannot buy both of them on every carrier. Stupid, stupid move. /facepalm. However, the SG4 and HTC One will be available on all carriers.
Nice going Sony. Whoever you have in charge of the "great idea" department who thought releasing two versions of the same phone with different feature sets and bodies but the same specs, and then deciding to only release one of them on some carriers and the other on the rest should be fired. You've just guaranteed yourself a 3rd place finish at best. Good job striving for excellence.

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
What carrier(s) is the Xperia coming out on?
I have only seen it mentioned on here once before and I googled it and didn't see a carrier.
Will verizon get it?
If not, it's a bad move on their part.
You NEVER neglect the largest carrier or the biggest LTE network

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
If you read the above, this question was already answered - The Z will come out only on some, not all carriers. Same goes for the ZL. There's two Xperia's not one. Just the fact that you called it "The" Xperia speaks volumes about what a bad job Sony has done on making people aware of their phones.

Well i should have asked what carriers is the Xperia line coming to?
I have heard zero about this phone away from here.
Sony truly sucks.
They are worse than HTC

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
Who is worse than T-Mobile?
AT&T? No.
Sprint? No, at least I can get signal indoors
Verizon? Let's not even joke like that
MetroPOS? Not even them.
I have had all the carriers and the mobile is definitely worst of them all in Atlanta.
And what phone is better than the s3 and why/how?

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
We haven't reached a time where carriers are completely irrelevant. They still matter. And because they still matter, these OEMs will need to play ball for now.
Which carriers are getting either of these Xperias and how does that list compare to the list of carriers getting either the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4?a.k.a. RyZR from HoFo

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
I just find T-Mobile is friendlier to customers with unlocked devices which is all I use so it's essential.
1st & 2nd bad experiences with AT&T:
I purchased a prepaid SIM for my GNex like a year ago & at the desk I asked if they can help me set it up - flat out "Nope, sorry. Maybe tech support if you call them from another phone" WTF?!
So I called & when I said it was a GNex they said I'd need to Google it...really?!
3rd (final) bad experience with AT&T:
A year later with my Nexus 4 I went in & asked if they sold SIM adapters as I have devices that use Nano/Micro/Standard. Instead of a nice & simple "Nope" they had to say:
Them: "We only sell SIM cards that fit properly"
Me: "Well I need all 3 sizes, what then?!"
Them: "You can get 3 SIM's & each time you swap switch your number online"
I gave them such a disgusted look, removed my SIM, broke it in half & tossed it on the ground then as they watched I crossed the street & went to T-Mobile who happily cut my SIM twice to fit all sizes.
Goodbye AT&T! - 03-15-2013, 03:33 PM #13

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
CDMA coverage is great, wtf are you talking about? Verizon is CDMA and their coverage is the best.
Sprint does have terrible speeds though, no argument from me the, only exception is their LTE.
And Verizon had gotten better with pricing. The new share every thing plans are way better. I sell verizon service and I get a lot of. AT&T customers switching because verizon is cheaper
But yeah it does suck that they got rid of unlimited data. Carriers are pushing cloud services now that they got rid of unlimited data when the cloud should have been big when unlimited was here

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
I never said CDMA coverage was bad. I just listed CDMA as a disadvantage, as it isn't compatible with unlocked phones.
Verizon's Share Everything plans are actually worse, especially for individuals. On T-Mobile you can get unlimited everything with unthrottled data for $70/month. On Verizon, even 1GB of data is $90/month, and 10GB (which is the closest to unlimited) is $140/month!
Yes, Sprint's LTE speeds are very good, but they have very few LTE markets, especially in the West where I live.

Re: How Sony botched 2013 from day 1
Before they got rid of unlimited, i priced verizon while contemplating leaving sprint.
They wanted about 130 a month for minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited data.
Now with share everything, it's 100. With 2 gigs.
Cheaper than the old plans.
