"There is an update available for Facebook"... Malware warning!
Hi, I'm not sure what to do about this screen. The official Facebook app seems to be the one sending me this notification (I long pressed the notification and checked info), but this "update" needs to be side loaded onto the system instead of installed via the Play Store. Has anyone else encountered this update prompt?

Getting the same thing just now. Warning signs:
1. Not through Play Store but (apparently) through the Facebook app itself.
2. "Install new build" button doesn't show a version number.
3. Requests permission "download files without notification" - now why would the Facebook app need that?
I sent feedback to Facebook through their Help Center but the reply was only the canned "your input is important" , "we can't respond to individual feedback emails".

I foolishly allowed the new build to install. Just in case I uninstalled and reinstalled Facebook and am changing all of my passwords. Hopefully this is just Facebook making a dumb move and I won't have to wipe my entire phone.

Now I'm getting a suspicious looking sign in error that is prompting me to sign in with my Google account. Something is definitely spamming me.

Hmmm, Engadget is now reporting that this is an actual Facebook update, so I guess I shouldn't have been so hasty to change all my passwords.

If you read the front page blog of android central it was all ready posted it is legit just a bit on creepy side though. Quote:

It's legit (as legit as FB can get), but it's a breach of the contract FB signed when it put up its app on the Play Store. It's also intrusive.
