Default does rooting affect unlocking the phone?

I have a Samsung Captivate that is rooted and installed Cyanogen Mod OS.

I called AT&T and they gave me unlock code, but the code would NOT unlock the phone.

I wonder if having a rooted phone would affect the unlock in anyway, or should I go back to Samsung OS, unlock and then Cyanogen Mod again?

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

That is what I have done with my DEFY and TMO UK.
Went back to stock ROM > UNlocked with original unlock code > rooted again > enjoy with every SIM card you have got

so that's what happened? rooted android would cause the phone not being able to be unlock? and not a bad cyanogen mod OS?

and you successfully unlock by going to stock OS?

The other thing is that I already punch the unlock code 4 times. I think for Captivate, you have 5 tries? Does it mean the tries is reset if I go back to stock?

    Thanks.

Nope rooting will never affect unlocking...It might be the cause of wrong codes... try to contact them again and verify the code or else purchase from any commercial vendors online like Superunlockcodes.com for accurate codes

If you are running an aosp rom, it won't work. Reason being you don't have the manufacturer specific apps for it to work. You have to be on a stock rom for any dialer codes to work. Backup your rom and flash stock, unlock it, then reflash your backup.
