    Default What's Google announcing tomorrow?

Gingerbread is unlikely. New apps and/or services are more likely. What's everybody think?

I'm really hoping they bring us everything that was shown off as "froyo" back in May. music and web market.

even though I can't wait for 3.0, I'd like to have the awesome features already announced before google goes and announces 3.0 and I'm still left with nothing

I'm 90% sure that they're going to unveil Google Music.

225,000 Android phones activated every day...or something silly like that.

But in all honesty, I'm really hoping for the music service, some kind of Google social networking platform (whatever they're releasing to compete with Facebook), or a new type of information service (a la kgb).

Guess we'll just have to wait til tomorrow tho! (seems like so far away even though it's really not long at all.)

    Default Gizmo5/GVoice VOIP Service??

That's what I am waiting for. A standalone Google Voice Voip service (i.e. no need to make calls via third parties like Skype or PSTN lines).

Considering Gingerbread is slated for an October release, it’s not that far fetched they’ll show something tomorrow. But then again, I doubt it considering not enough time has passed to deign and develop something since the webOS design guru joined the Google team to tackle the redesign of Android.

If they do announce an interim version between Froyo and Gingerbread perhaps it will be Chocolate Froyo Froyo w/ nuts.

    is reporting:

Google special event Thursday may bring Android video calls ...

Google today sent notice of a special event at its Mountain View campus on Thursday to unveil a "couple of cool new mobile features" that may bring video calling to Android. While the company has so far only said that mobile product lead Hugo Barra will lead the event, sources suggested Tuesday night that it may be video chat integrated with the mobile OS. A second option raised by AllThingsD may be a clone of Find My iPhone that would help Android owners track, lock down or wipe a lost handset

    Possibly puppies. Kittens are unlikely.

I'm pretty sure that the page of the documentation on how to link to your app in the market was different yesterday. Possibly the desktop version of the market will be announced.

I have a screenshot of this but am not allowed to post images to the forum. You can figure it out twitpic.com/2dpuxz

I hope it is video calling. Got this slick Evo that has a forward facing camera but there are still no options for video to pc video chat.

I supposed that I would still be happy with some new cool apps or services, like the music service or something else utilizing the cloud to android technology that came with Froyo. I will be quite disappointed if it is ANYTHING regarding Gingerbread, since very little has even been done with Froyo yet.

"All your base are belong to us"

Ok...I'd guess it'll be the revamped market and some new apps, perhaps video calling, or remote wiping (or hey, both?). Their social networking seems right out, as it wouldn't be announced by the head of their mobile division, and as much as I'd love to see Gmusic get announced, I think it's just too soon at this point.

Although now that I've said that...a revamped music player you could download from the market for free is possible. That would improve the mp3 chops of all Android phones...it could pave the way for changes needed for Gmusic in the fall, AND it could help start the shift they announced earlier where they were going to release OS modules in the market, to cut down on fragmentation.

I have no information on any of this, but now that I've written it out I really hope it's something like that last idea.

An interim version of Froyo is not going to happen. Why? lol Most devices don't even have it, so why an "interim" version?

Gingerbread: If they reveal ANYTHING about Gingerbread/3.0, the media and competing smartphone camps will have a field day. Again, the top-tier Android devices are only JUST NOW getting Froyo. Why would Google unveil something newer and better that these phones won't get until January? I know I would be pissed.

Music service: More than likely. What kind of music service? We don't know.

Video calling: A built in video-calling app would be a great way to combat Facetime.

And yes, they'll probably announce 225,000 Android device activations a day even though that is kind of ridiculous. I mean, if that is true, ten days from now, 2,250,000 Android devices will be active and out in the wild. I'm sorry, but that's bull****.

Personally I'd like to see something related to that Best Buy android tablet, or any other 10" Android tab. I really dont want to buy an ipad...

Also, maybe they'll announce they're ready to rollout App Inventor to more users. I've been waiting on approval for almost a month.

I really don't see them announcing their music service yet. I hope I'm wrong, we did hear that it was "progressing faster than expected" but there are still massive amounts of deals that have to be signed in the music industry if this is going to be viable. Of course it could be targeted to beat the new iPod Touch models too the punch...if that's true I still expect it to be more an announcement then an actual product launch, I don't expect Gmusic to be on our phones until October. A new music player for the OS though would help combat the iPods. A facetime-like app might also steal some of the thunder from Apple's upcoming product line. Hmmm...

I don't expect the number of divices sold per day has already hit 225k, but I don't understand what you think is BS about that? They are already selling 2 million devices every ten days, so an extra quarter million isn't really crazy (even if it's a bit soon yet). By the holidays they will probably be well past that IMO.

Edit: The more I think about the timing, the more I expect this announcement will at least tie in with something meant to compete with the new iPods. So IMO video conferencing seems very likely, but store revamps and a new media player don't seem too far fetched either (or better yet, all of the above). I don't think we'll a whole lot on tablets out of Google until we are closer to Gingerbread, but maybe that's just me.

Something other than Qik for video calls. Don't care about the market as appbrain makes it easier for me anyway.

some new mindblowing app that will make my toes curl.

I meant BS about ANY of those numbers. Idk, call me skeptical but by now, every American should have an Android device according to their numbers lol. I know I know, this number includes Int'l and devices like Nooks, tablets, etc. But I just find it to be wayyy too many "activations" compared to the smaller market share the (most definitely growing) Android OS has. Sure, Android is skyrocketing but I still think it should be muchhh higher if the numbers Google is reporting are true.

Maybe they'll explain their position on why the internet should be subject to "management" by Verizon, but only if you access it wirelessly.

That after a late night poker game they lost the rights to Android to Steve Jobs.

Seriously, I figured just new features, or planned new features. Perhaps even a sneak peak at the UI planned for Gingerbread.
