Why do apps want so many permissions?
For example the angry birds app, wants things like access to contacts list. Why does a game need access to my personal contacts for? This is one of the problems I am having, complete invasion of privacy with this platform unlike BB was. Is there any way to add these apps without giving them this access?
Re: Why do apps want so many permissions?
I would guess that Angry Birds accesses the contacts list in order to facilitate sharing scores and other achievements on social media. Permissions like these are pretty much the new reality for many apps on connected devices. They're present on iOS apps as well, but a little more hidden than for Android apps. Can't comment on Blackberry apps, but there aren't as many in comparison anyway.
If you're highly concerned about invasion of privacy, then using apps on a smartphone might not be the right thing for you to do. I'm not saying that it's entirely a good thing, but it's how the web is nowadays, like it or not. Being an informed and aware consumer is the best defense.
