They have returned. Google ousted them from the Play Store but, they don't give up that easily....

They won't stop until the real BBM is released and has enough downloads/reviews to push any fakes below it on the app rankings.

I hate seeing this. If google can't do any better controlling the malware apps, I may not ever come back to android, which is sad, because after having a couple android devices I actually liked it.
but, I am not going to waste my time researching ever single app I install to make sure its not a fake malware copy. ridiculous.

It's not just BBM, even whatsapp messenger has a fake app. And people downloaded it more than 10 000 times. It's like plague on the Google play store

What's the motive behind these fake spammers? Has anyone actually downloaded and used one of them to find out if they're malware?

I'm not big fan of ios but there's the restriction policy of Apple I like about. Each n every app is verified first before it goes live on to the APP Store. While on the android there could be as much as 50 fake apps of one kind. I know Android is an open platform for developers also as much as it is for customers. But Google has to do something about the fake n malware apps.

They could ban the developers themselves from publishing on the store, which they may end up doing.
