At what point did we go from just using our phones and plugging them up whenever we needed to no matter when that was to requiring our devices to go for hours upon hours between charges and if they don't it's a problem?

    Excellent question.
I would say right about the time Facebook and other social media became prevalent on smartphones. More screen time, more battery drain, and then obviously more charging.

I think social media outlets in general (forums included) have had that effect on us! Before discovering forums I'd just plug in and go. I think forums and social media has forced us to expect more than what we'd previously just accept as normal.

One person says he gets 2 days of battery life and after reading that we all expect it.

Part of the problem is people do need to realize that while having behemoths like the Note 3 are nice, that large screen eats a lot of battery.

Indeed. I've since gotten rid of my Note 2 in favour of a RAZR HD and I still have my Nexus!

The Note 3 pulls at least 5 hours of screen time on a single charge. I'd say that's great.

Not saying its bad, but almost everything has some kind of draw back.

Definitely. Coming from a Droid Maxx I can say its advantage was battery life. The Note 3 advantages are louder ear piece speaker, larger screen with better clarity, and some random things. Plus Samsung devices have way more cases available since its not only on Verizon.

Old "dumb" flip phones could go two or three days on a charge. So now we are starting to get to reasonable battery life again with the full 24 hour day I can get on my moto x.

Feature phones didn't have quad-core processors and 4.5+ inch displays in full HD...

I could really see myself using this Razr HD until my upgrade in October. I hate being tethered to a charger or having to given my usage to get through a day. I can use this thing as I want and it'll last.

I'm consistently getting these kind of numbers...

No, of course not. But people did get used to a certain routine/charge cycle/expectation for mobile phone life after years of using them. The pathetic phone life we had when Android phones first hit the market was really bad. Now things are much more reasonable and useable. Who wants to run around looking for a plug all the time? Certainly not me.
