Default Nexus 5 dies on me due to water damage =(

Went on a cruise last week and came back with a dead water damaged Nexus 5. The phone is dead dead dead, and no amount of dry rice could save it. Currently on my Nexus 4 with a kitKat ROM (which is surprisingly very good and feels almost the same speed-wise).

Fortunately I was smart enough to back up pictures I took using my USB OTG drive. If I had not, I would have lost ALL pictures I took...because of no SD. As it is I still lost about 20% of them because the back ups were not completely up to date. All the SD opponents (including Google) are simply wrong. SD should be a standard thing on every phone. There are no significant downsides to it, and lots of upsides...and this is a good example of one. It is really nice of 3rd part companies to provide bandaids for design flaws like this. it saved me a lot of memories.

Ah well...I have a new one in the mail as we speak. I still love the phone so I am willing to put up with this giant festering wart, because the rest of the package is so perfect. Google said 32 gig Nexus 5s were 3-4 weeks...it shipped a day after I placed the order though. Don't believe Google Play ship estimates.

Sorry to hear that! I'm glad you were able to save some of your photos & replace the phone.

After seeing the photos, I had no choice but to buy another one. The camera is just that awesome. My Nexus 4 does not even begin to compare. (no, neither of the people in these pictures is me)

I know how you feel... and I hardly even use the camera.

You should send your phone to Liquipel, or get one of those Sony.

I'm not around water enough for it to matter. This was a single isolated vacation.

I should have just bought a cheap underwater camera. And that is what I will do next time.
