    Hey everyone,

My iPhone 5 is my main phone but I own my own business and have added a second line and will now use a second cell instead of a landline. I want to get android since we use Google Apps for business and I use Fido in Canada so selection is slim. It seems to be down to the S4 Mini or the Moto X as both are about the same price on contract, $30 vs $50 respectively.

My issue is that I hate the idea of carrying around 2 smartphones all the time since it seems redundant. I will of course have to carry them but I just mean having both phones go off with email notifications, hangouts etc, so rather just use one for that, so my work phone doesn't really need to be fancy, it just needs really good call quality, especially on Bluetooth. I'd prefer a small phone but they all seem large, so the S4 Mini seems like a better fit due to the size but size aside which of these phones would generally be better in terms of quality, future upgrades, ease of use, speed etc?

The other options available other than these 2 are:

    Nexus 5 - $150
    Sony Xperia SP - $0
    HTC Desire 601 - $0
    Galaxy S4 - $300
    S3 Mini - $0

    Welcome to the forums.
I have the Moto X and Nexus 5. I like them both a lot, more than my S3. If I had only to choose one I would say the X.

S4 mini is not very good when you consider the price, you won't get much updates for it, it's Samsung way of milking more cash with their brand popularity without putting any effort in it. You'll be making a big mistake buying it.

If you want a real good phone that is compact, look at the Moto X and Xperia Z Compact if it become available for your carrier. Motorola have good radio and you get clear voice calling, another reason to consider it the Moto X.

Thanks everyone I've pretty much settled on the Moto X as I think that's the best option for me. Wanted that from the start was more just put off by the size of it since carrying it plus my iPhone around is a bit of a pain but I think at the end of the day it will be a better phone and makes the most sense.

Have you bought it yet? I was going to suggest the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, by far the best "small screen phone" around:

    4.3inch HD720P Display
Water+Dust proof build with a Metal frame
    20MP Camera
    Snapdragon 800 CPU

    All in a gorgeous design:

I'm talking specs, the Z1 Compact is literally a top end Android just with a 4.3inch display. It has the same CPU as the Note 3, LG G2 and Nexus 5.

The Moto X is a very good phone if you don't mind having a sub-par camera. The Nexus 5 and Z1 Compact are also nice phones with better cameras, specs, and nice UI. I would pick the Z1 compact or N5 over all of the other phones you mentioned.

    Because specs.

If you're hung up on specs, you're thinking about the Moto X in the wrong way.

    Moto X, definitely.

I personally love the Nexus 5. But the Moto X probably has a better radio (actual phone). The Nexus 5 will be easier to see in sunlight if you are using it outside a lot. It will have a higher res display, faster CPU, better camera, and likely a lot more support in the long term. It's your call whether that is worth $150 to you, but I doubt you will have buyer's remorse with the Moto X.
