Default Anybody listen to podcast? Is there a good podcast app on Android?

I don't know if I can take it anymore?

I have a Windows 8 phone (Nokia Lumia 520); I like the phone, butter smooth interface despite the specs, compact design, fair price, good offline/no data GPS navigation, and the battery life appears to be as good as they get. However, for whatever reason I can't find a podcast app that I'm happy with.

I like Podcast Critter, but the app is yet again having issues; I currently can not subscribe to any podcast (keeps crashing). I've tried un-installing it and re-installing. I have also re-set my phone today and still no luck. Other podcast apps might work, I don't know if they are updated yet, but most of theme either have poor interfaces or freezing/crashing issues.

Windows phones are the first smartphones I've ever purchased, never tried/owned a iPhone or Android. How are podcast apps on Androids?

Pocket Casts costs a few bucks, but is totally worth it. They run their own servers and the servers keep up to date lists of what podcasts have been updated. This means instead of your phone having to ping 10 or 15 servers to check for updates to the various shows you listen to, it only has to check in with one server at Pocket Casts. Because of this, you can check for updates to 50 podcasts as quickly as most apps would check for updates to one podcast. I've also noticed that Pocket Casts seems to download podcasts more quickly than other podcast apps I have tried. It is well worth the $5 they charge, especially if you listen to a lot of podcasts (I think I have about 18 I'm subscribed to).

It also has Chromecast support, which means for $35 you can get a dongle that will let you listen to your podcasts through your TV/Home theater from the same app you use on your phone. Add that on to a great look UI that is easy to use and you have an excellent podcast app.

I started using IPP after a few recommendations here. Like it a lot.

I guess my title is misleading

I am really not looking for app suggestions, but I take it that podcast apps on Android phones simply work? Hardly ever freeze or crash.

That's a shame; I was coming from the "suggest something that doesn't work" angle.

I'm not sure what you mean.

Regardless, I contacted the developer of Podcast Critter (W8) and he/she said there was a corrupt class library, and the new version fixes the issue (takes a while for MS Store to update). All the other podcast apps are "difficult" to use, especially considering how well Critter works.

I'm still a little frustrated, but I suppose I could try holding out to see how the new WP (8.1) update will turn out.

I use Beyond Pod. It syncs across all my devices and casts to chromecast but that part is VERY VERY buggy. I wish I had another option...anybody know of any that syncs and plays to chromecast? Sleep timer is a must.

So, I take the answer is that podcats apps simply work in Android?

Sorry if I'm jumping out, still having issues with my W8 phone podcast apps. I really am considering jumping over to a kit kat... even though I will have to spend twice as much money.

My podcast app of choice on android is BeyondPod. Incidentally on wp8 have you tried Podcast2go it's what I'm currently auditioning on my 520. The only issue is if the feed is old it only loads 50 episodes.

I use Stitcher on my android and haven't had any issues. I also used Stitcher on iOS and never ran into any issues.

I really want to like Stitcher because it has awesome integration with my car stereo, but I every time I try it, I use it for a week or two and end up back on Pocket Casts. Not sure why I can't get into Stitcher.

Yes most of them do. I mean, there are crap podcast apps on Android too, but there are tons that work flawlessly and are suited to how different users use their apps. For example, both Stitcher and Beyond Pod have been brought up in this thread. Both are well made apps that are very well rated and that I personally cannot stand to use, yet others swear by. We are spoiled for choice.

There are tons of people who do. I am definitely in the minority and I'm not saying it is a bad app, just that it isn't for me. I think it is because I like to listen to my playlists out of order and that is not what stitcher is designed for.

I'm a Beyond Pod user and really like it. It's got a host of customizations available to the user and gets the job done. There are some good suggestions here that I'll give a try.
