Like, I get what there used for (to manage files) but I don't really get why I need to use one.couldn't I just manage stuff through to corresponding apps or whatever? Honestly, I'm afraid to poke around too much in a file manager for fear I might mess something up on my phone. Like, I might alter code or core stuff or something. There's a lot of crazy stuff in there. Is that even possible?

So, if anyone can educate me a bit more, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think you would be happier with an iPhone.

If you don't root your phone, you won't be able to touch system files, so no, you won't break anything. The worst you could do is delete some files and mess up an app you downloaded, in which case you'd just re-install it.

The bottom line is you don't need one. The reason you might want one is to manage files directly: remove data you've stored on your phone that isn't from an app, or clean up files left behind by an app you've uninstalled. Nerdy things. Root users, on the other hand, might use a file manager to do things like mess with system files or delete apps that came pre-installed on the device.

Cool, so I couldn't do anything to slow my phone performance by messing something up in the file manager? Sorry if that's a silly question, I was just wondering

Because iPhones are much simpler for users and less can go wrong.
The price to pay for that is that iPhones are much less customisable than Androids.
    It's a choice.

Well, I want customization. I just don't want to bork my phone either.

Then you will have "to poke around" in file manager(s) and such. Better get used to the idea.

Nobody does. But that risk comes with the territory. Better get used to the idea.

But if you don't want to run that risk: get a simpler system. Like iOS.

Don't know what he/she is getting as either... You can fully customize your phone without the need for root or a file manager.

The only thing I want to make sure is that I can't damage my phone by poking around with a file manager.

Like someone already mentioned, without root you have no access to system files and thus cannot damage you're phone.

edit: if you do plan on rooting, or if you already have then just don't mess with any files that you don't know about. But I would imagine that if you are rooted you would have made full backups of your phone.

Agreed You really don't have to worry about much in File Manager
Just moving stuff from your device such as pictures to your SD card.
But feel free to look around just be careful you don't delete something important such as pictures and contacts.

    Have fun buddy.
